Visit and Lecture by Distinguished Visiting Professor Yoshitsugu Hayashi at Tsinghua University’s Department of Civil Engineering

On June 12th, 2023, Distinguished Visiting Professor Yoshitsugu Hayashi, a member of the Japan Academy, former Chair of the World Conference on Transport Research Society, and Professor at Nagoya University Graduate School, visited Tsinghua University’s Department of Civil Engineering at Tsinghua University. He presented a lecture titled "From 'The Limits to Growth' to Carbon Neutral and Beyond Emergence from 20th Century Civilization" at the New Civil Engineering Building. The lecture was chaired by Professor Lu Hua-Pu, Director of the Tsinghua University Transportation Research Institute, with Professor Li Ruimin, and Associate Professor Guo Runhua, attending and delivering welcome remarks.

Professor Hayashi renowned for his extensive research on transportation and urban conditions, combines humanities and science to create interdisciplinary academic perspectives. He praised China's advancements in transportation and scientific research, and infrastructure development. Utilizing traditional knowledge and big data analysis, he reviewed Japan’s territorial design, environmental changes, and urban development, presenting challenges, opportunities, and strategies. Following the lecture, lively discussions on topics like urban traffic congestion alleviation and achieving low-carbon goals were held with faculty and students.
