School of Civil Engineering persists in the teaching road of Research University, and actively conducts high-level scientific research. The school has 3 national key disciplines, namely structure engineering, hydaulic structure engineering, hydaulics and river mechanics. The main research institutions include Research Institute of Structure Engineering, Research Institute of Engineering Management, Research Institute of Construction Materials, Research Institute of Earth and Space Information, Research Institute of Transportation Engineering, Research Institute of Disaster Prevention and Reduction, Research Institute of Real Estate, Research Institute of River Hinge, Research Institute of River, Research Institute of Hydrology and Water Resource, Research Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Research Institute of Geotechnical Engineering, Research Institute of Hydraulics, Research Institute of Project Management and Construction Technology, Research Institute of Construction Engineering Design, Research Institute of Hydraulic and Hydropower Engineering Design, Staff Room of Structure Mechanics. The school laboratorys include State Key Laboratory of Hydro science and Engineering, Education Ministry Key Laboratory for Structural Engineering and Vibration, and Laboratory of Engineering Structure, Laboratory of Hydraulic Structure, Laboratory of Hydraulics, Laboratory of Sediment, Laboratory of Survey, Laboratory of Construction Materials, Laboratory of Soil Mechanics, Soil Mechanics of Water Resource, CAD Laboratory, and so on. Based on these research institutes and laboratories, a group of multi-discipline research organizeations, such as Institute of International Engineering Project Management, FIDIC-TSINGHUA-CNAEC Training Center (2001), International River Ecology and Safety Research Center of Tsinghua University were established in tandem.

In recent years, our school fulfilled many state key technology projects and national fund projects. By staying close to the key technology of important national project construction, we have achieved a series of high-level research results and won 3 National Natural Science Awards, 20 National Science and Technology Advanced Awards and nearly 100 first-level and second-level science and technology awards at provincial and ministerial level, with 5 doctor dissertations awarded as National Outstanding Doctoral Dissertations. The research group mainly composed by the young and mid-age teachers in the Institute of Sediment is awarded as the Excellent Creation Group by the National Natural Science Fund Committee.

The school also pays much attention to international exchanges and has long term cooperation and exchanges with universities and research organizations of many countries, such as US, Canada, Russia, Britain, Germany, Norway, Sweden, Austria, Australia, Japan and Korea.
