The Department of Construction Management not only provides a high-quality research-based degree curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students, but it also provides continuing education with practical significance for students with industrial experience. The students will be able to obtain knowledge and skills on construction project management to better prepare them for the planning, design, construction, implementation, and management of future engineering projects, as well as to train them to carry a humanistic spirit and act with social responsibility.
The mission of Bachelor of Science in Construction Management (BSc [CM]) program is to provide foundational courses on the design, construction, and management of civil engineering and to equip students with a grasp of civil engineering techniques and foundational theories of management, economics, and law in civil engineering. This will endow students with rational abstraction, logical reasoning, comprehensive analysis skills and initial abilities in the overall process management of an engineering project so that after graduation, students will be able to completely handle process management for engineering projects and carry out general design and construction work in civil engineering. At the same time, students can work towards achieving local and overseas qualification requirements and examinations in this field.
2. The mission of the Master of Science in Real Estate and Construction (MSc [RE&C]) program
The mission of this program is to train professionals in construction project management, real estate economics and management, and construction technology research. Through this program, students are expected to understand and obtain solid theory and knowledge in the engineering field, to employ their professional knowledge to solve engineering problems, and to obtain R&D capabilities and relevant work abilities through their studies.
3. The mission of the Master of Engineering in Project Management (MEng [PM]) program
The mission of the program is to train professional senior management personnel who are engaged in the project management life cycle (planning, evaluation, design, construction, and finishing). These students must have solid theoretical foundations and extensive knowledge in project planning and evaluation techniques, project financing methods and strategy, overall systems for project construction, project procurement and contracts, project and construction management, and the establishment and encouragement of project teams, and they should be familiar with the development process, current status and trends in project management locally and abroad. Students can independently work on project planning, project evaluation, project supervision, project financing, the management of project procurement, the management of project contracts, etc., in certain engineering domains. They should have a good command of foreign languages and peruse relevant literature enabling them to per verbal and written communication effectively. Students should also have a solid grasp of relevant foundational theories and professional knowledge and understand the future development of the discipline. Through course learning and thesis training, this program aims to enhance scientific R&D abilities and the ability to comprehensively use technology and management theories to solve actual problems in student project management.
4. The mission of the Master of Engineering in International Construction and Project Management program (MEng (ICPM))
The mission of ICPM is not only to provide a high-quality research-based degree curriculum for undergraduate and graduate students, but it also provide continuing education with practical significance for students with industrial experience. This program aims to train professionals who have comprehensive professional abilities in solving construction management problems, developing extensive international exposure and the potential to become outstanding consultants and managers in civil engineering. The students of ICPM will be able to obtain knowledge and skills on construction project management to better prepare them for the planning, design, construction, implementation, and management of future engineering projects, as well as to train them to carry a humanistic spirit and act with social responsibility.
5. The mission of the Doctor of Philosophy in Real Estate and Construction (Ph.D. [RE&C]) program
The mission for doctorate students are to achieve sufficient balance in the following areas: (1) foundational theories in project management science, (2) suitable breadth and depth in professional knowledge on construction and real estate project management, (3) a prescribed level of competency in project management practice, econometric model calculation, and design, (4) the abilities required for various major aspects of scientific research, (5) the necessary knowledge of related disciplines
